Golden Retrievers are generally a very healthy
breed so long as they are fed and exercised correctly, they will live
long, healthy, and happy lives.
Like most breeds, they are subject to some genetic disorders, and with
the help of the Kennel Club and the British Veterinary Association for
Hips, Elbows and Eyes which are readily available for the breeders to
use.
Hip Dysplaysia, Golden Retrievers are subject to Hip Dysplaysia, both
of my dog's have been X Rayed by the BVA, and speaking for myself I do
all that I can to try and prevent this happening to any of my puppies,
but no matter how hard you try this can not alway's be a gaurantee.
Elbows, This is a new scheme which has been recently introduced,
some breeders have their dog's X rayed for elbows some not.
Eye Problems, Speaking personally, I have my dog's checked each year
for any eye defects, and if any defects found they are not breed from,
this is all done through the Briish Veterinary Association / Kennel Club
and you receive a certificate to say that they are clear from any
defects. Multi Retinold Fold can be found in some but this is not a
serious problem as you dog will not go blind.
Cataracts can also be found, at some stage through a dog's life.
Characteristics, Intelligent, Biddable, with Natural Working ability,
Temperament, Confident, Kindly, and very Friendly,
Before breeding takes place, my Bitch is swabbed to ensure no infection,
but is also put on a course of antibiotics.
I breed as a hobby with pleasure and passion for all my Golden Retriever
Puppies, they are reared indoors, in a safe and clean enviroment, they
are well socialised with humans, and dog's, and would like to think that
by the time they leave me they are house trained as this is something
that I believe helps when going to there new homes.
All puppies are registered with the Kennel Club, they are also endorsed
with;
;Progeny not eligible for Registration; and not ; Eligible for issue of
Export Pedigree;
I like to give all my new puppy owners there own folder with as much
relevant information as I can to assist and help them.
